Great-west Lifeco Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q2 2026
Great-West Lifeco reported a strong Q2 2026 with 15% year-over-year base EPS growth driven by double-digit gains at Empower and Capital & Risk Solutions (CRS). Empower surpassed US$2 trillion in workplace client assets and announced the acquisition of Milliman's Retirement and Benefits Administration business (expected to close later this year), which management expects to be accretive in year one and to strengthen bundled sales capability. Europe delivered mid-single-digit or higher earnings growth, improved capital efficiency (management cites over $3 billion in capital benefits and a 350-basis-point ROE improvement versus 2024), and robust sales including $1.2 billion of UK bulk annuities in the quarter. Canada showed solid retirement and wealth momentum but experienced temporary moderation in long-term disability and individual insurance experience. CRS continues to see strong, but lumpy, global demand for capital solutions, supporting mid-to-high growth. The company remains highly cash generative (free cash flow ~86% of base earnings this quarter), finished Q2 with a LICAT ratio of 128%, HoldCo cash of $2.5 billion and 27% leverage, and is committed to deploying capital through buybacks and M&A — targeting at least the same total capital deployment in 2026 as in 2025.
