Great-west Lifeco Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q2 2026
Great-West Lifeco reported a strong Q2 2026 with 15% year-over-year base EPS growth driven by double-digit performance at Empower and Capital & Risk Solutions (CRS). Empower surpassed US$2 trillion in workplace assets and announced the acquisition of Milliman's Retirement & Benefits Administration business (1.5 million participants, US$130 billion AUM), expected to be accretive to base earnings in year one. Base ROE was 19.3% with continued balance-sheet optimization (LICAT ~128%), Holdco cash of US$2.5 billion, and a leverage ratio of 27%. Europe delivered mid-single-digit organic earnings growth and materially improved capital efficiency (>$3 billion of capital benefits and ~350 bps ROE improvement vs. 2024). CRS saw strong, diversified, but lumpy demand for capital solutions, driving high growth and attractive margins; management expects continued demand but will remain disciplined on returns. Empower retirement and wealth businesses posted strong flows and margin improvement, with further operating-margin investment planned. Great-West remains highly cash-generative (free cash flow ~86% of base earnings this quarter), has repurchased $925 million of shares YTD, completed a US$340 million acquisition, and expects total 2026 capital deployment (buybacks + M&A) to be at least as much as 2025 (~$1.6 billion).
