Great-west Lifeco Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q2 2026
Great-West Lifeco reported strong second-quarter 2026 results driven by double-digit base EPS growth (15% YoY) and broad-based momentum across Empower, Capital & Risk Solutions (CRS), Canada, and Europe. Empower surpassed US$2 trillion in workplace client assets, posted double-digit retirement growth and very strong wealth performance, and announced the accretive acquisition of Milliman's Retirement & Benefits Administration business (adds ~1.5 million participants and US$130B in assets). CRS continues to see robust, diversified and opportunistic demand for capital solutions, contributing materially to earnings but remains a lumpy business. Europe delivered mid-single-digit earnings growth, strong bulk annuity sales (US$1.2B in Q2), improved capital efficiency (>$3B of capital benefits realized, >350 bps ROE improvement vs. 2024) and rising cash remittances. Canada showed solid retirement and wealth growth but experienced some unfavorable short-term insurance experience (notably group LTD claims/recoveries). Financial position remained healthy: base ROE ~19.3%, LICAT ~128%, leverage ~27%, Holdco cash ~US$2.5B, and significant free cash flow (base capital generation >80% of base earnings; free cash flow ~86% of base earnings). Management reiterated capital allocation discipline and flexibility — continuing share buybacks (NCIB expanded) and M&A with a commitment to deploy at least as much capital in 2026 as in 2025 (~US$1.6B), while preserving regulatory capital targets (LICAT >=125%).
