Huntington Bancshares Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Huntington reported a strong Q1 2026 driven by organic growth and contributions from recent partnerships (Veritex, Cadence, Janney, TM Capital). Key financial highlights: adjusted EPS $0.37 (up 9% YoY), PPNR up 36%, TBV up 9% and ROTCE maintained in the 16%–17% trailing range with management raising the medium-term ROTCE target to 18%–19% for 2027. Loan and deposit growth were solid (organic loan growth ~1.5% QoQ excl. Cadence; core deposits +2.3% QoQ excl. Cadence). Net interest income increased significantly sequentially, but management now expects 2026 NIM to trend into the high 3.20s (down modestly from prior mid-3.30s expectation) driven partly by carrying an incremental ~$4B in Fed cash and modestly higher deposit costs; they expect NIM to rise in H2 and into 2027. Fee income was a standout, beating plan across payments, wealth and record capital markets performance; management raised fee revenue growth guidance to 31%–33% for 2026. Expense discipline remains a priority: baseline expense tuning (~$50M) plus rephasing some investments and accelerated efficiency initiatives tighten the 2026 expense-growth range to the lower half of ~32.5%–33.5%, with an expectation of Q4 2026 efficiency ratio in the mid- to low-54% range. Credit remains healthy (NCOs 26 bps, criticized assets 4.3%, NPAs 72 bps). Liquidity and capital are strong (unmodified LCR 118%, available contingent liquidity ~173% of uninsured deposits, adjusted CET1 in 9%–10% operating range). Share repurchase activity accelerated: ~$250M repurchased YTD with Board approval of a new $3B authorization; management expects at least $550M in repurchases for 2026. Management is executing integrations on schedule (Veritex conversion complete; Cadence conversion planned for June) and expects cost and revenue synergies to materially lift returns into 2027 while remaining disciplined and attentive to macro uncertainty.
