Kirby Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Kirby reported 2026 Q1 EPS of $1.50, up 13% year-over-year. Marine Transportation drove results with improving inland and coastal fundamentals: inland barge utilization averaged low-90% and coastal utilization mid-to-high-90%; spot pricing strengthened and term renewals rose significantly in coastal (≈20%). Inland operating margins were in the high-teens and coastal margins also high-teens. Distribution & Services revenue grew 12% YoY driven by Power Generation (revenues +45% YoY) and marine repair, but sequential revenue and margins were pressured by OEM engine delivery constraints and softness in conventional Oil & Gas. Management raised full-year EPS guidance to +5% to +15% (from flat to +12%), maintained revenue/margin ranges, and expects year free cash flow generation to remain strong ($575–675M operating cash flow target). Balance sheet: $58M cash, $983.4M debt, 22.3% debt-to-capitalization, $635M available liquidity; amended credit facility extends maturity to March 2031 and increases revolver to $750M. CapEx expected $220–260M; Kirby returned $52.7M via buybacks and completed an acquisition of 23 barges and 3 boats for $95.8M. Near-term headwinds: Q2 may see ~$0.05–$0.10 EPS impact from diesel fuel cost lag in inland contracts and ~$0.10–$0.15 EPS impact from OEM engine delivery delays in Power Gen. Management is constructive on 2026 and sees continued momentum into 2027–2028 driven by constrained barge supply, strong petrochemical/refining activity, and durable demand in behind-the-meter power solutions.
