Mastech Holdings Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Mastech Digital delivered Q1 2026 revenue of $41.1M, down 15% year-over-year, driven by deliberate pruning of lower-margin staffing roles and one sizable client in-sourcing. Management realigned reporting into two segments — Talent (staffing/intermediated engagements) and Data and AI (direct, higher-value engagements) — and reports meaningful early traction in Data and AI: bookings increased nearly 90% year-over-year on a TCV basis and new bookings in the quarter were a historic high ($7.0M TCV vs. $3.7M a year ago). Talent revenue declined to $28.5M with bill rates reaching an all-time high (~$90.1) while billable consultants fell to 619 (down 163 YoY). Data and AI revenue was $12.6M (down ~21%), but management highlighted a multiyear, multimillion-dollar health-care payer engagement as a strategic win. Gross profit fell 14.5% to $11.0M but gross margin ticked up slightly; GAAP net income was $0.3M ($0.02/share) versus a prior-year loss, and non-GAAP net income rose to $1.3M ($0.11/share). The EDGE efficiency program has delivered cost savings, and management is redeploying those savings into AI engineering, modern data platform capabilities, proprietary tools/accelerators, go-to-market and domain talent — driving an investment posture that will increase SG&A spending through 2026. Balance sheet is healthy: $33.6M cash, no bank debt, $21.3M available on the revolver. Board authorized a $5M share repurchase program (no buys yet). Management reiterated they will not provide forward guidance and expect a volatile market environment with longer decision cycles, but see durable demand for data/AI modernization and AI-readiness work.
