Protector Forsikring ASA Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q2 2026
Protector reported a strong Q2 2026 with an 81.5% combined ratio and NOK 9 earnings per share, supported by a strong insurance service result and investment returns. Growth was muted and driven largely by U.K. business with many of those policies having 1 April inception dates; local-currency growth varied by market. The U.K. public sector remains subdued due to market softness and local government reorganization, while Sweden is regaining growth driven by broker facilities and motor business. Protector won its largest-ever U.K. client (a large motor fleet) expected to impact results from Q3 and be a strategic opportunity to improve claims handling and reduce claim sizes. Claims development in the quarter benefited from fewer large losses (4.6% vs an 8% normalized expectation) and run-off gains (~4%), but management reiterates an 8% normalized large-loss expectation over time and cautions on quarter-to-quarter volatility. Motor remains an area needing further pricing/action in some markets (notably U.K. and Denmark); Norway and Sweden show improvement. Costs are deliberately flat as the company redeploys efficiency gains into projects, data and technology; AM Best affirmed the credit rating with a stable outlook. Reinsurance effects were volatile this quarter (lower recoveries; some commission-based reinsurance commissions may be recognized later in the year). On capital, equity will increase with earnings while requirements rise with balance sheet growth. Management continues to evaluate new markets (Spain, Poland, Germany, Italy and selective U.S. excess) with Spain being the furthest advanced prospect. Renewal rate in the quarter was 88%.
