U.s. Bancorp Depositary Shares Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q2 2026
U.S. Bancorp reported a strong Q2 2026: EPS $1.35 (+22% YoY) and record net revenue of $7.7B (+10.1% YoY). Fee income reached 44% of revenue and accelerated across capital markets, payments, trust & investment management, and consumer channels. The BTIG acquisition contributed roughly $98M of capital markets revenue in June (its strongest month ever) and management expects BTIG to help grow capital markets to >10% of company revenue over time, with an assumption of about $200M per quarter in the back half of the year and a ~15% contribution margin (with ~$60M integration costs this year). Net interest income (FTE) rose to $4.4B (+7.5% YoY) with NIM at 2.79% (up 2 bps sequentially); loan growth was broad-based (C&I, CRE, card) and average loans were $405B (+7.1% YoY). Positive operating leverage (≈400 bps this quarter) and expense discipline improved efficiency to 57.1%; ROTCE was 18.7% and ROA 1.26%. Management updated guidance: Q3 NII growth +4–6% YoY, Q3 fee revenue +12–14% YoY (BTIG contribution included), Q3 non-interest expense growth ~8% YoY (core expense ex-BTIG ~3.5%), a ~$160M reserve build for the Amazon small business portfolio acquisition expected to close mid-August, and full-year 2026 net revenue growth of 7–9% (5–7% ex-BTIG). Capital remains strong (CET1 10.8% as of 6/30), tangible book >$30, and the bank expects to continue share repurchases as capital allows while prioritizing loan growth and integration spending. Management emphasized ongoing investments in consumer (Bank Smartly, Business Essentials), branch densification in ~10 high-opportunity markets (increasing annual branch investment from ~$200M to ~$300M), and that fee-led growth (the “fee complex”) will continue to outpace NII in the near term.
