It also purchases residential mortgage-backed securities that are issued and the principal and interest of which are guaranteed by a federally chartered corporation (Agency RMBS); debt securities issued by the United States Department of Treasury; and collateralized mortgage obligations issued by a government agency or government-sponsored entity that are collateralized by Agency RMBS. The company qualifies as a real estate investment trust for federal income tax purposes. It generally would not be subject to federal corporate income taxes if it distributes at least 90% of its taxable income to its stockholders. The company was formerly known as Cypress Sharpridge Investments, Inc. and changed its name to CYS Investments, Inc. in September 2011. CYS Investments, Inc. was founded in 2006 and is based in Waltham, Massachusetts.
