watchOS 8.3 Release Candidate Expands AssistiveTouch to Older Apple Watch Models
09:16am, Thursday, 09'th Dec 2021 Mac Rumors
The watchOS 8.3 release candidate has expanded AssistiveTouch, allowing users to control their Apple Watch using only hand gestures, to older Apple Watch models after the feature was previously exclusive to only newer Apple Watches. Apple first previewed the feature in May as part of its continued commitment to making its products accessible to as many people as possible. AssistiveTouch uses a combination of data from onboard Apple Watch sensors to notice subtle changes in muscle movements and tendon activity. Using gestures like a clinch or pinch, users can control their Apple Watch without touching the screen. AssistiveTouch for watchOS enables people with upper-body limb differences to use Apple Watch without ever having to touch the display or controls. Using built-in motion sensors and on-device learning, Apple Watch detects subtle differences in muscle movements and tendon activity, letting you control the display through hand gestures like a pinch or a clench. This feature also works with VoiceOver so you can navigate Apple Watch with one hand while using a cane or leading a service animal.

Apple AirTags Being Used By Thieves To Steal Luxury Cars Apple AirTags is a great tracking device for when you lose your wallet or backpack. But thieves in Canada use the devices to track and steal luxury vehicles. York Region is a municipality in Southern Ontario, Canada. Since September, there have been five known incidents where suspects placed AirTags on high-end vehicles so they could locate and steal later. Leaving a mark that will endure
06:00am, Thursday, 09'th Dec 2021 Connacht Tribune
A GROUP of independent Galway councillors have pooled their resources to purchase a machine to inscribe special security markings on their machinery and equipment. The councillors forked out over 6,000 to purchase the Dot Peen marking machine and already members of the Athenry Mens Shed have been trained on how to use them. Cllrs Declan Geraghty, Tim Broderick, Declan Kelly, Gabe Cronnelly, James Charity, Jim Cuddy and Thomas Welby, Karey McHugh, Geraldine Donohue and Evelyn Parsons funded the purchase in an effort to try and tackle the ongoing problem of thefts from farmers, tradesmen and private houses. Property Marking Ireland (PMI) supply the Dot Peen machines which leave a permanent mark on equipment using a carbide pin to indent the marking surface with text and logos the usual engraving is the Eircode of the owner. PMI Founder and Development Manager, James ONeill, told the Farming Tribune that 18 local authorities across the country had now the use of one of the machines which he added could play a key role in deterring criminals from stealing equipment and tools. Where the system has been in place for four years in Monaghan, there has been an 87% drop in thefts. It means equipment can be immediately traced back to its rightful owner at present only 4% of the 30% of stolen goods recovered can be reunited with owners, said James ONeill.
