Quid iPhone Pro Quo: Apple Signed Secret $275 Billion Deal With Chinese Government
03:00pm, Tuesday, 07'th Dec 2021 Zero Hedge
Quid iPhone Pro Quo: Apple Signed Secret $275 Billion Deal With Chinese Government Investors and journalists have been openly questioning whether Apple CEO Tim Cook, once praised for his deep-rooted connections within the CCP, has allowed his relationships in China to sour as the US has stepped up criticisms over human rights - treatment of the Uyghers in Xinjiang and elsewhere - and Taiwan. These ties have grown intensely controversial, eliciting criticism from lawmakers, rivals and even the company''s own employees. And just as the SEC prepares to boot dozens of Chinese companies off of US stock exchanges for refusing to comply with US audit standards (something the CCP has expressly forbidden under the auspices of data privacy), reporters with the Information have just published a bombshell: At some point in the not-too-distant past, Cook struck a $275 billion deal with the Chinese government while facing pressure from the CCP. The deal emerged after a series of meetings between Cook and Chinese officials back in 2016.

Apple CEO Tim Cook ''Secretly'' Signed $275 Billion Deal With China in 2016
02:49pm, Tuesday, 07'th Dec 2021 Mac Rumors
Apple CEO Tim Cook "secretly" signed an agreement worth more than $275 billion with Chinese officials, promising that Apple would help to develop China''s economy and technological capabilities, The Information reports. In an extensive paywalled report based on interviews and purported internal Apple documents, The Information revealed that Tim Cook personally forged a five-year agreement with the Chinese government during a series of in-person visits to the country in 2016. The need to push for a closer alliance with the Chinese government reportedly came from a number of Apple executives who were concerned about bad publicity in China and the company''s poor relationship with Chinese officials, who believed that Apple was not contributing enough to the local economy. Alleged internal documents show that Cook "personally lobbied officials" in China over threats made against Apple Pay , iCloud , and the App Store . Cook set out to use a "memorandum of understanding" between Apple and a powerful Chinese government agency called the National Development and Reform Commission to formally agree to a number of concessions in return for regulatory exemptions.
