Amazon plans to sweeten the deal for Future Retail
07:39am, Tuesday, 08'th Feb 2022 Economic Times India
Kishore Biyani''s Future Retail might get an improved offer from Amazon.com Inc which may be more acceptable to the lenders, Mint reported.Amazon''s offer may also compare well with the one made by Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd to Future Group, the report said. Amazon had originally offered to infuse capital of Rs 7,000 crore but may raise that to help Future Group FRL''s debt obligations if lenders enter into an understanding with Amazon.A capital infusion of up to Rs 10,000 crore, initially, may suffice FRL''s immediate obligations and its working capital needs, Amazon feels. The proposed rescue plan entails investment in FRL through an Indian-owned and controlled company (IOCC)).Amazon is a foreign entity and as such it faces FDI restrictions to take complete control of a domestic retailer. The fresh scheme proposes that around 19 business entities of Future Group be amalgamated into Future Enterprises Ltd and then transferred to an IOCC.The IOCC may be registered as a domestic entity (with joint investment by Amazon and another large investor) so that it is not bound by foreign investment restrictions in FRL.Reports suggest that Amazon would want Future to unwind the Rs 4,000 crore related party transactions to make more cash available in FRLs books.
