ONTARIO, Canada As a six-day old blockade of North Americas busiest trade corridor ended on Sunday, February 13, Canadians voiced questions on policing tactics used to quell the demonstrations in the border city of Windsor and in Ottawa where protests entered a third week. The Freedom Convoy protests, started by Canadian truckers opposing a vaccinate-or-quarantine mandate for cross-border drivers, have turned into a rallying point for people opposing the policies of Prime Minister Justin Trudeaus government, covering everything from pandemic restrictions to a carbon tax. Meanwhile a social media outcry has been triggered by images of police mingling with a sea of protesters in Ottawa, helping some put a fallen tent back up, and one video showing an Ontario Provincial Police officer telling demonstrators I support you guys 100%. The police department said the officers comments were not in line with the OPPs values and they were investigating. Ambassador Bridge Reopens As Protesters Cleared

01:51pm, Monday, 14'th Feb 2022 Baystreet Canada
The Ambassador Bridge that facilitates two-way trade between Canada and the U.S. has reopened after a weeklong protest had shut it down. “Normal border processing has resumed at the Ambassador Bridge,” the Canada Border Services Agency said on Twitter. The reopening came after local police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police slowly and methodically pushed protesters from the foot of the bridge up Huron Church Road starting Saturday (February 12). With the road cleared, police worked to remove barriers positioned to prevent the protest from growing and to get Canada’s border agency staff to the bridge. Restarting traffic across the bridge after the week-long blockade is essential to both the U.S. and Canadian economies. The protest halted the transport of $13.5 million U.S. an hour in traded goods and forced automakers to reduce production or cancel shifts at plants in Ontario and Michigan. A Superior Court Judge issued an injunction Friday afternoon, giving police stronger legal cover to make arrests and tow vehicles.

By Kayla Tarnowski WINDSOR, Ontario (Reuters) - A tense standoff between Canadian police and protesters opposing COVID-19 restrictions was set to continue on Sunday, as a court order and threats of arrest have failed to end a blockade of a key Canada-U.S. border crossing. President Joe Biden has asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to use federal powers to end the blockade of the Ambassador Bridge, North America''s busiest land border crossing. Since Monday, protesters in trucks, cars and vans have blocked traffic in both directions, choking the supply chain for Detroit''s carmakers. Despite a court order to end the occupation and a state of emergency imposed by the province of Ontario, home to the city of Windsor, police have failed to disperse the crowd and resume cross-border traffic. Police moved in early on Saturday, pushing protesters back from the foot of the bridge, but more people streamed into the area in the afternoon and the operation appeared to have stalled. Late on Saturday, Windsor Police arrested a 27-year old man for a criminal offence in relation to the demonstration. "I am very hopeful still that police can try and get to these folks in a reasonable way and have them understand that it''s time to move on," Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens told CBC News. "We can no longer afford as a country to keep it closed." The bridge carries about $360 million a day in two-way cargoes - 25% of the value of all U.S.-Canada goods trade.
