Canadian judge orders an end to the blockade at a U.S.-Canada border bridge
10:47pm, Friday, 11'th Feb 2022 NPR
WINDSOR, Ontario — A judge on Friday ordered protesters at the Ambassador Bridge over the U.S.-Canadian border to end the 5-day-old blockade that has disrupted the flow of goods between the two countries and forced the auto industry on both sides to roll back production. It was not immediately clear when or if law enforcement officers would be sent in to remove the demonstrators, who parked their pickups and other vehicles in a protest against the country''s COVID-19 restrictions and an outpouring of fury toward Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government. Chief Justice Geoffrey Morawetz of the Ontario Superior Court said during a virtual hearing that the order would be effective at 7 p.m. to give protesters time to leave. Windsor police immediately warned that demonstrators blocking the streets could be subject to arrest and their vehicles may be seized. The decision came after a 4 1/2-hour court hearing at which the city of Windsor and lawyers for auto parts makers argued that the blockade was causing undue economic harm for the city and region.

The Canadian anti-vaccine mandate protests are causing automakers to cut production
05:23pm, Friday, 11'th Feb 2022 The Verge
Photo by DAVE CHAN/AFP via Getty Images Major automakers are feeling the strain of the anti-vaccine mandate protests in Canada that have blocked several major bridges on the US-Canada border. Honda, Toyota, General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis have all had to cut production in Canada, the US, or both as the anti-mandate protests stretch into their third week. It is the latest supply chain disruption to affect the auto industry, which is still reeling from the semiconductor chip shortage that has slowed production and led to increased prices of both new and used vehicles. The convoy protests began in late January, after a loose affiliation of truckers banded together to drive from western Canada to the nation’s capital of Ottawa to voice opposition to COVID-19 vaccine… Continue reading…

"We Just Want Our Freedom Back" - Ford Considers Flying Car Parts To Canada Factory As Trucker Blockade Continues
01:04pm, Friday, 11'th Feb 2022 Zero Hedge
"We Just Want Our Freedom Back" - Ford Considers Flying Car Parts To Canada Factory As Trucker Blockade Continues Earlier this week, we warned if the Ambassador Bridge that connects Windsor, Ontario, with Detroit, were to remain shuttered for more than 48 hours, there would be severe consequences for North America''s auto industry. By Thursday morning, automakers, including Toyota, Chrysler Pacifica, Ford, and General Motors, halted or limited production at their Canada/U.S. manufacturing plants due to the lack of parts usually sent via truck across the busiest international land border crossing between the U.S. and Canada. Now, at least one automaker is seeking logistical alternatives to bypass the blocked border crossing to restart its Canadian plants. Reuters reports Ford is examining air freight as a way to sidestep the logistical nightmare around Ambassador Bridge as demonstrations against pandemic measures and vaccine mandates have chocked a key artery of US-Canada trade. The automaker wants to fly auto parts to a plant in Windsor that produces engines for popular models. "We are looking at all options to keep our plants running," a spokesperson for Ford''s Canadian division told Reuters.

Canada''s truck protest shuts key border crossing
10:30am, Friday, 11'th Feb 2022 Axios
What began as a small-but-loud truck convoy protest against Canadian pandemic restrictions has snowballed into an international crisis that''s been choking the busiest border crossing in North America all week. Driving the news: Copycat convoys are spreading in other countries, including the United States, where officials warned of a potential disruption to Sunday''s Super Bowl in Los Angeles. What''s happening: Factories facing a shortage of parts have been forced to stop production on both sides of the border after protesters supporting the truckers blocked access to Detroit''s Ambassador Bridge. The span is a lifeline for the U.S. auto industry that connects Detroit to Windsor, Ontario and carries 25% of all U.S.-Canada trade, per the AP. The bridge is also the country''s only privately owned border crossing. Michigan billionaire Matthew Moroun, the owner, whose family also runs a giant trucking empire, told Crain''s Detroit Business that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau either needs to end Canada''s COVID vaccine mandate for truck drivers (90% are already vaccinated) or start arresting protesters.
