COVID-19 Protests In Canada Disrupt U.S. Auto Production
06:18pm, Thursday, 10'th Feb 2022 Newsy
Watch Video The truck blockade by Canadians protesting the country’s COVID-19 restrictions is tightening the screws on the auto industry, forcing Ford, General Motors and other car companies to shut down plants or otherwise reduce production on both sides of the U.S. border. SEE MORE: COVID-19 Protests Impact Border Trade Between Canada, U.S. The bumper-to-bumper demonstration by the self-proclaimed "Freedom Truck Convoy" entered its fourth day Thursday at the Ambassador Bridge connecting Windsor, Ontario, to Detroit, disrupting the flow of auto parts and other products between the two countries. The Ambassador Bridge is the busiest U.S.-Canadian border crossing, carrying 25% of all trade between the two countries, and the effects of the blockade there were felt rapidly. Ford said its Windsor, Ontario, engine plant reopened Thursday after being shut down on Wednesday because of a lack of parts. But the factory and the company’s assembly plant in Oakville, Ontario, near Toronto, were operating at reduced capacity, the automaker said.
Trucker-Led Protest Threatens Business in Canada, US
05:40pm, Thursday, 10'th Feb 2022 Voice of America News
A trucker-led protest of coronavirus vaccine mandates that is blocking traffic at a key bridge linking the United States and Canada picked up urgency as it threatens to dampen business activity in both countries. The protesters, who are demanding an end to Canadas coronavirus restrictions, have blockaded the Ambassador Bridge between Detroit, Michigan, in the U.S. and Windsor, Ontario, Canada, bringing central Ottawa to a halt. The blockade prevented traffic from entering Canada Wednesday, but U.S.-bound traffic continued. Trucks transport about 25% of all trade between the two countries across the bridge, much of which is linked to the automobile sector. Canadian authorities have said they are increasingly concerned about the economic effects of the protest, which is inspiring similar protests in France, Australia and New Zealand. Blockages, illegal demonstrations are unacceptable, and are negatively impacting businesses and manufacturers, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned as he addressed the House of Commons Wednesday.
Exclusive-Ford’s Lincoln brand to launch full slate of electric SUVs by 2026: Sources
05:27pm, Thursday, 10'th Feb 2022 AOL
By Paul Lienert DETROIT (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co is stepping up plans to extensively electrify its Lincoln brand in North America, as it prepares to introduce at least five new battery-powered Lincoln sport utility vehicles through 2026, three people familiar with the plans told Reuters. Included are battery-electric models that will replace or supplement the Lincoln Corsair, Nautilus, Aviator and Navigator, said the sources, who asked not to be identified. The strategy to electrify Lincoln is a key element of Ford''s planned $30 billion investment in EVs and batteries through 2030. Ford announced the $30 billion initiative in May 2021. The automaker has said it will have the annual capacity to build at least 600,000 electric vehicles globally within 24 months, when it aims to become "the clear No. 2 electric vehicle maker in North America" behind Tesla Inc. On Thursday, Lincoln spokeswoman Anika Salceda-Wycoco said it was "too early to talk about specific details around future vehicle or production plans." The first of the new Lincoln EVs, a large crossover about the size of the Aviator, is slated to begin production in late 2024 or early 2025 at Ford''s Oakville, Ontario, plant, as part of a $1.5 billion changeover there from combustion-engine to battery electric vehicles, two of the sources said, citing the automaker''s plans shared with suppliers.

(AP) Kansas legislators signed off Wednesday on the state''s largest-ever taxpayer-funded incentives to attract thousands of new jobs even though most didn''t know the name of the company or what it plans to make. The incentives would exceed $1 billion. The measure also cuts corporate income tax rates. The Republican-controlled state Senate approved a bill, 31-9, that would create a new incentives program so the state Department of Commerce could offer a single company hundreds of millions of dollars in breaks once this year and once in 2023. The GOP-controlled House approved the measure Tuesday, so it goes to Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly. Kelly pushed for permission to offer tax credits, payroll subsidies and training funds in time to lure an unnamed company. Officials said the firm plans a $4 billion project and Kansas is competing against another state that some legislators said is Oklahoma. We want to buy these magic beans.
GM And Ford Warn Dealerships: Stop Charging Over Sticker Price Or We''ll Cut Off Supply
11:30pm, Wednesday, 09'th Feb 2022 Zero Hedge
GM And Ford Warn Dealerships: Stop Charging Over Sticker Price Or We''ll Cut Off Supply Both Ford and GM are directing their dealers to stop charging so much for autos, according to a new report by the Wall Street Journal . Dealerships have been marking up vehicles over sticker price as a result of a drought of inventory, attributable to supply chain issues and the semiconductor shortage, combined with increased demand. But Ford Chief Executive Jim Farley said this week that dealers who gouge prices will "face consequences" that may include losing supplies of future models. We have very good knowledge of who they are, he said on his company''s earnings call, talking about these dealerships. Farley noted that around 10% of the roughly 3,000 dealerships in Ford''s U.S. network are charging above the sticker price, the report said. Ford will punish those who don''t stop with "punitive action", the report said. GM also called out a small minority of bad actors engaging in the practice, and said it could also withhold vehicle shipments as a result.
