01:33pm, Tuesday, 07'th Dec 2021 KentOnline
Aggregate firm J Clubb Ltd has submitted plans for a new ready mix concrete plant at Darenth Road Quarry. The application to Dartford Council seeks to amend the layout and make additions to the existing quarry site - relocating elements such as cabins, machinery and sand and shingle bays. The Darenth road Quarry site, west of the M25. Image from Google The quarry - located north of the A2 and west of the M25 - was previously used to supply material to construction works on the A2 and M25 slip roads, with direct access to the construction areas. The direct access links have now been closed and a parcel of land to the east has been taken over by Highways England and restored. A planning statement said much of the surrounding land has been restored to woodland and agriculture, but the application site remains unrestored with excavated rock faces and bare ground remaining. The quarry is secured by a perimeter fence and dense trees and vegetation block the majority of views of the site from public vantage points from all sides.

Google Rolls Out Voice and Video Call Features to Gmail App
12:20pm, Tuesday, 07'th Dec 2021 Mac Rumors
Google has added the ability to join one-on-one Google Chat voice and video calls from within the Gmail app, the company has announced . Before now, it was possible to make calls from within the Gmail app on iOS and Android, but users had to send an invite to a Google Meet video conferencing call, which was more convoluted and limiting. In future, however, users will be able to tap new phone and video icons that appear in the upper right corner of individual one-on-one chat screens in the Google Chat section of the app. In addition, users who initiate a call from the Google Chat app will now be redirected to the Gmail app, highlighting Google''s intention of putting the Gmail app at the center of its communication platforms. The call feature is rolling out from December 6 for everyone with Google Workspace, G Suite, or personal Google accounts. (Via The Verge .) 12:06pm, Tuesday, 07'th Dec 2021 Axios
Newspapers all over the country have been quietly filing lawsuits against Google and Facebook for the past year, alleging the two firms monopolized the digital ad market for revenue that would otherwise go to local news. Why it matters: What started as a small-town effort to take a stand against Big Tech has turned into a national movement, with over 200 newspapers involved across dozens of states. "The intellectual framework for this developed over the last 3-4 years," said Doug Reynolds, managing partner of HD Media, a holding company that owns several West Virginia newspapers, including the Charleston Gazette-Mail. Reynolds, along with a group of lawyers, filed the first newspaper lawsuit of this kind in January in West Virginia. Catch up quick: As a part of the first lawsuit, Reynolds worked with a coalition of lawyers that has agreed to represent newspapers all over the country looking to file similar lawsuits. The lawyers include experts in antitrust litigation and lawyers with a personal interest in newspapers from Farrell and Fuller, Fitzsimmons Law Firm, Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd LLP and Herman Jones LLP.
