Android 101: How to stop location tracking
08:53pm, Tuesday, 30'th Nov 2021 The Verge
Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge Location tracking can be very handy its convenient when an app can tell you, say, where the nearby restaurants or gas stations are but its also a privacy issue . Do you want all your wanderings registered by Google? Are you comfortable knowing that Mark Zuckerbergs minions know where you are at all times? (Well, not that Mark Zuckerberg has minions, but you know what I mean.) In this article, well take a look at how to stop location tracking on your Android phone (and your Google account) and how to delete your location history from your OS and from some of the more popular apps. As always, note that versions of Android can differ, and many manufacturers use overlays as well, which can change the locations of various commands but they should be similar enough for you to be able to find your way. For these instructions, Ive used a Pixel 6 phone running Android 12, but Ive included some directions for those with earlier versions of Android.

U.K. Supreme Court Finds Data Protection Representative (I.e., Class) Action Cannot Be Pursued Against Google
08:27pm, Tuesday, 30'th Nov 2021 JD Supra
On November 10, the United Kingdom (U.K.) Supreme Court issued a decision in Lloyd v. Google LLC, UKSC2019/0213 (Supreme Court of the United Kingdom), recognizing that the loss of control of personal data by consumers alone is insufficient to establish damages to enable a claimant to show he had the “same interest” in a claim to pursue a representative action on behalf of 4.4 million Google users who allegedly had their internet activity tracked without their knowledge or consent. Household appliances are increasingly smart in China, because of the lazy economy
08:16pm, Tuesday, 30'th Nov 2021 PingWest
In a report released on November 18 by the research affiliate of e-commerce giant JD, the domestic shipments of smart home appliances are surging, which derives from the lazy economy. It is a consumption demand with the nature of being time-saving, labor-saving, and convenient. Chinese millennials are the core group in this market phenomenon. The sector of the smart home is strong and has gained reactions from the capital. In October, Xiaomi-backed Aqara raised over $156 million in the Series C round. Aqara provides compatible routes to Apples HomeKit. In the same month, Dreame Technology, a Xiaomi-backed cleaning robot startup, bagged $563 million in Series C round. Besides, floor-sweeping robot maker Zbeetle secured about $16 million in Series Pre-A round financing in November. Generally, smart home stands for an Internet of Things (IoT) approach where lighting, climate, entertainment systems, and appliances are connected by technologies like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for control and monitoring.

Review: 2022 Lexus NX Brings an All-New Infotainment Experience With Wireless CarPlay and Built-In Apple Music
07:53pm, Tuesday, 30'th Nov 2021 Mac Rumors
Toyota and its luxury brand Lexus are starting to roll out an all-new infotainment system with large touchscreens, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, and more, and I recently had a chance to go hands-on with one of the first vehicles to get the new system, the 2022 Lexus NX . My test vehicle was an NX 450h+ AWD plug-in hybrid priced at nearly $60,000 that comes with a spacious 14-inch main infotainment display. Lower trims of the NX come with a standard 9.8-inch display that can be upgraded to the 14-inch one. Lexus Interface The infotainment system is similar on Toyota and Lexus vehicles, and it''s known as Lexus Interface on the luxury brand. The system delivers a modern, clean look that''s heavy on light gray backgrounds during the day and dark gray at night. For the NX, Lexus has opted to go for a very streamlined look for the dashboard that incorporates most of the climate controls into the main infotainment screen. On some other vehicles such as the 2022 Toyota Tundra with essentially the same system, climate controls remain primarily hard buttons below the infotainment screen, so Toyota is being somewhat flexible depending on what it believes the target market for each vehicle will prefer.

Three Google workers sue over alleged violations of ''don''t be evil'' motto
06:45pm, Tuesday, 30'th Nov 2021 Engadget
Google''s classic "don''t be evil" mantra may have been more of a philosophical statement than a practical guideline, but former staff members now want to hold the company accountable for it. NPR and The Verge say ex-engineers Paul Duke, Rebecca Rivers and Sophie Waldman have sued Google for allegedly violating the "don''t be evil" segment of the company''s code of conduct . They claim Google fired them for organizing worker opposition to controversial projects , like working with the Trump-era Customs and Border Protection. They were supposedly punished for pointing out evil like Google as instructed, in other words. The one-time employees claimed Google rejected the famous phrase as it was both expensive and leading workers to organize. The internet firm supposedly decided it was better to fire people than admit its approach had changed and give up the "accompanying benefits" that came with its well-known motto. There are concerns the lawsuit is too vague. What defines evil, exactly? However, plaintiff lawyer Laurie Burgess argued "don''t be evil" was specific enough that it could be enforceable.

UK antitrust body deals deadly blow to Facebook; blocks acquisition of Giphy
05:18pm, Tuesday, 30'th Nov 2021 Political Economist Nigeria
November 30, 2021 The United Kingdom’s antitrust watchdog has blocked Facebook’s acquisition of Giphy and ordered the social network to sell off the GIF-sharing platform, saying the deal hurts social media users and advertisers by stifling competition for animated images. The Competition and Markets Authority said Tuesday that the deal would let Facebook “increase its already significant market power” by denying or limiting other platforms’ access to Giphy GIFs and driving traffic to Facebook-owned sites. It has noted previously that there’s only one other big provider of GIFs, Google’s Tenor. The regulator also was concerned that the deal removed potential […] The post UK antitrust body deals deadly blow to Facebook; blocks acquisition of Giphy appeared first on Political Economist .
