Google is finishing the week with more antitrust headaches . Reuters reports a group of Texas-led US states has filed an amended version of its lawsuit against Google over alleged abuses of power in the online ad business. The updated complaint provides more detail about Google''s purported efforts to stifle competition, including the secret " Project Bernanke " ad buying program. The states said Google used Project Bernanke in 2015 to drop the second-highest bids from publishers'' ad auctions, pool money and pour those those funds into only those bids using Google Ads. That gave Google Ads bidders an unfair advantage and helped them win auctions they likely would have lost, according to the revised lawsuit. We''ve asked Google for comment. It previously confirmed the existence of Project Bernanke, but maintained there was no wrongdoing and that the states'' lawsuit "misrepresents" its ad business. The refreshed lawsuit may pose additional challenges to Google, though. At the least, the amendment underscores the states'' attitude toward Google they''re determined to curb its behavior.

Msia justified in protecting local shippers via cabotage policy

04:20pm, Sunday, 14'th Nov 2021 The Sun Daily
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is justified in protecting local shippers under its cabotage policy as it also gives leeway for participation by foreign players to a large extent. The move will prepare domestic players to participate in future cable repairing or larger projects while positioning Malaysia as a data centre hub. Inevitably, it will stimulate seaborne trade and reinforce Malaysias maritime nation status. This is what other countries and international technological firms do to protect their investments and Malaysia should do the same, says Malaysia Offshore Support Vessel Owners Association (Mosva) president Mohamed Safwan Othman. He joins calls by several quarters that as much as Malaysia wishes to attract foreign direct investments (FDIs), a clear line must be drawn between attracting FDIs and protecting domestic investments. This is more so when it comes to safeguarding national sovereignty i.e, the shipping industry, he said in response to the recent debate over the cabotage policy impacting the undersea cable industry.

Googles new floodlight camera is bright but not beautiful

02:00pm, Sunday, 14'th Nov 2021 The Verge
Speedy smart alerts and good lighting control make up for an odd design If youre going to install one outdoor security camera at your home, a floodlight camera is the best option. You get lights and a camera in one unit to capture all the action and you dont have to mess with charging batteries or drilling holes through your walls for power cables a floodlight cam can go wherever you have existing outdoor lighting. Its a win-win smart home device. The only downsides are a high upfront price and a more involved installation. Unfortunately, the new Google Nest Cam with floodlight ($280) doesnt solve either of these issues, being one of the more expensive floodlight cams and having the oddest design and installation process. But, despite these failings, its an excellent floodlight camera and has several benefits over the competition which is multiplying. These benefits include a built-in battery backup for if the power goes out, intelligent motion sensing so the floodlights arent always going off when a moth flies by, and on-device processing that translates to much speedier alerts crucial for a security camera.
