Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle | Pat Nabong/Sun-Times file There’s an exemption for people picking up takeout food. Cook County, following Chicago’s lead, announced Thursday it will be implementing a COVID-19 vaccination mandate for customers of indoor settings where food or drink are served for on-premises consumption, like restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues, and in fitness facilities. The county’s vaccine mandate will begin Jan. 3. Under the order issued by the county’s Health Department, businesses must require any individual 5 years of age and older to show proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with an approved vaccine in order to enter the establishment. Customers must be fully vaccinated, meaning they are two weeks removed from their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Booster shots are not required, though Health Department officials urge people to get boosted. Businesses must also require patrons age 16 and older to show identification — including but not limited to driver’s license, passport, government ID, work or school ID — with information that corresponds to the vaccination proof.

Third jab ''significantly'' boosts Omicron antibodies: AstraZeneca

08:47am, Thursday, 23'rd Dec 2021 Business Recorder
LONDON: British pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca said Thursday that a third, or "booster", dose of its Covid-19 vaccine Vaxzevria "significantly" lifted antibody levels against the Omicron strain in a laboratory study. "Vaxzevria significantly boosted levels of antibodies against the Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant (B.1.1.529) following a third dose booster," the company said in a statement citing the study. "The third dose booster vaccination neutralised the Omicron variant to levels that were broadly similar to those observed after the second dose against the Delta variant," it said. Levels of neutralising antibodies were also higher with the booster jab than with individuals who had previously been infected and recovered naturally from Covid-19. The study was conducted by investigators from the University of Oxford, which is the academic institution which helped AstraZeneca develop the vaccine last year. Moderna says full booster dose improves Omicron protection The study analysed blood samples taken from individuals infected with Covid-19; those vaccinated with two doses plus a booster; and those who had reported previous Covid infection. "It is very encouraging to see that current vaccines have the potential to protect against Omicron following a third dose booster," said University of Oxford professor John Bell, one of the study investigators. "These results support the use of third dose boosters as part of national vaccine strategies, especially to limit the spread of variants of concern, including Omicron." On Wednesday, the World Health Organization had warned that rich countries cannot use boosters to escape the Covid crisis, as they divert valuable jabs away from poorer nations -- and encourage the virus to spread and mutate.
Yesterday, the University announced that Hopkins affiliates who work or study at its U.S. campuses will be required to get a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 booster shot by Feb. 1 Affiliates will need to upload documentation of their booster shot in the University''s Vaccine Management System . In interviews with The News-Letter , students expressed support for the mandate, and shared concerns about rising cases associated with the omicron variant . Freshman Katherine Burdinger endorsed the new booster requirement in an email to The News-Letter. "It''s an extra precaution to keep everyone safe, which I think is what we have to continue to do as long as [COVID-19] is a danger," she wrote. University administrators noted in the broadcast that people are eligible for booster shots six months after receiving a second shot of the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, or two months after a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine. Affiliates who are not eligible for the booster on Feb. 1 will be required to receive their booster dose within two weeks of becoming eligible.

Top 10 Themes For 2022: Part 1

09:40pm, Wednesday, 22'nd Dec 2021 Zero Hedge
Top 10 Themes For 2022: Part 1 In its comprehensive take of the top 10 themes for 2022, Deutsche Bank''s Luke Templeman asks if covid is the only theme that matters ? He correctly responds that "that is not the right question. In fact, covid is now not so much a theme as it is the backdrop against which most things are evolving in economics, finance, and corporates." So what themes matter in 2022? As part of Deutsche Bank''s look ahead analysis, Templeman, director of the bank''s thematic research group, addresses the big macro topics the risk of the global economy overheating given stimulus measures and the change in attitude of central banks towards employment goals. Then there is how tight labor markets may further boost inflation. A flow on is higher bond yields and the end of free money that has propped up markets since the financial crisis. As he notes, while "stock markets may not crash, they could witness the return of fundamental investing." It certainly would be welcomed even if it comes with the S&P several hundred/thousand point lower.
