Flexsteel Industries Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Flexsteel reported Q1 FY2026 sales of $110.4M, up 6.2% year-over-year (eighth consecutive quarter of growth) and above guidance. GAAP operating income was $9.0M (8.1% operating margin), a 230-basis-point improvement versus prior year and the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year adjusted operating margin improvement. Growth was driven by new products, share gains with strategic accounts, ramping case goods and health & wellness categories, and effective cost control. The company is introducing a large slate of new SKUs and sub-brands (Pulse, Zen, Statements) to sustain growth. Management is concerned about recent Section 232 tariffs on imported timber/lumber/derivative products (including upholstered furniture) that became effective Oct 14 and will rise to 30% by year-end; unlike prior reciprocal tariffs, there is no USMCA exemption, so both Vietnam- and Mexico-sourced upholstery will be subject to the tariff. Flexsteel implemented tariff surcharges (8.5% earlier, increased toward 15% for many products) to partially offset cost, tightened discretionary spending, and is evaluating structural cost and supply options. Cash balance was $38.6M, working capital $116.9M, no bank debt, and backlog was $66.7M (flat). Given tariff uncertainty, management paused forward-looking guidance. Near-term demand is expected to be pressured by tariffs, weak housing, and fragile consumer confidence, but management remains confident in the company’s long-term competitive position and strategy to drive profitable growth.
