Honda Motor Company Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Honda reported Q1 FY2025 operating profit of JPY 244.1 billion (down JPY 240.5 billion YoY). Motorcycles delivered record quarterly operating profit (JPY 189 billion) driven by volume growth in Brazil and Vietnam; automobiles incurred an operating loss (JPY 29.6 billion) impacted by tariffs, EV-related one-time charges, higher R&D and adverse FX. Management revised the full-year consolidated operating profit forecast up by JPY 200 billion to JPY 700 billion and net profit to JPY 420 billion, reflecting a re-examination of tariff impacts (gross tariff impact revised down to JPY 450–400 billion range after detailed review) and a stronger USD assumption (yen/USD from JPY 135 to JPY 140). EV-related nonrecurring charges and tariff effects materially reduced Q1 profits (EV charges ~JPY 113.4 billion; tariff impact ~JPY 124.6 billion), and Honda says that excluding those one-time items Q1 operating profit would have been roughly JPY 482.1 billion. Share buybacks are well advanced (JPY 936.5 billion repurchased of the JPY 1.1 trillion authorization as of July 31). Management continues to emphasize producing where demand is and working with suppliers to localize key hybrid/EV components in North America, while monitoring China and Europe where demand/competition challenges persist. Cash generation remains solid (non‑financial-services free cash flow JPY 294 billion; net cash ~JPY 2,907.9 billion).
