Hydro One Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Hydro One reported Q1 2026 basic EPS of $0.65, up from $0.60 a year ago, with net income attributable to common shareholders up 9.2% year-over-year. Revenue (net of purchased power) rose 3% driven by higher transmission peak demand and 2026 OEB-approved rates; distribution revenue rose modestly from customer growth. OM&A declined slightly, while depreciation and interest expense increased due to asset growth and higher long-term debt. Capex was $715 million in the quarter (down 2.7% YoY) with $484 million placed in service (up 14.4% YoY). Key operational highlights include designation to develop multiple transmission projects (Greenstone, Sudbury–Barrie, Red Lake), 15 transmission lines under development/ construction, the First Nations 50-50 equity partnership model, progress on broadband and AMI 2.0 investments, and strong labour relations (new collective agreements and tentative CU agreement). Safety milestones and external awards were noted. The company filed a Z-Factor for ice-storm costs but the OEB denied recovery of $69 million; management says this does not change their JRAP plans. Hydro One intends to file its joint rate application (JRAP) on or before October 1, 2026 and remains on track with EPS growth guidance of 6–8% annually for the rate period (using normalized 2022 EPS of $1.61). Balance sheet and credit metrics remain strong (FFO to net debt 13.9% at March 31, 2026). The Board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.3531 per share payable June 10, 2026. Leadership transition: CEO David Lebeter will retire June 9, 2026 and COO Megan Telford will succeed him as President & CEO.
