LAUREATE EDUCATION Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Laureate reported Q1 2026 results with enrollment intakes in Peru and Mexico in line with expectations. New enrollments grew 13% in Peru (driven by rapid scaling of fully online programs for working adults) and 4% in Mexico (a smaller secondary intake amid a softer macro backdrop). Q1 revenue was $273 million and adjusted EBITDA was negative $2 million; on a constant-currency and calendar-adjusted basis revenue was up ~5% and adjusted EBITDA roughly flat versus prior year. The company reaffirmed full-year 2026 guidance: total enrollments of 516k–521k (+4%–5%), revenue $1.890–1.905 billion (+11%–12% reported; +6%–7% constant currency), and adjusted EBITDA $583–593 million (+12%–14% reported; +7%–9% constant currency). Adjusted EPS guidance was raised to $2.00–$2.08 to reflect $105 million of share repurchases completed in Q1 and continued buybacks remain a priority (about $76 million authorization remaining at quarter end). Balance sheet: $217 million gross debt, $157 million cash, net debt $60 million. Management highlighted seasonality (Q1 and Q3 are intake periods and seasonally low for revenue), ongoing investments in new campuses (primarily Mexico launches beginning in September), margin expansion weighted to the second half of 2026, expected adjusted EBITDA-to-unlevered-free-cash-flow conversion of ~50%, and continued focus on scaling online offerings (especially in Peru) while maintaining affordability and measurable student outcomes.
