Microvast Holdings Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Microvast reported Q1 2026 revenue of $60.6 million, a 48% year-over-year decline driven by lower shipment volumes (≈274 MWh vs ~536 MWh in Q1 2025) and timing effects including pull-forward shipments in 2025 related to tariff uncertainty. Gross profit was $19.2 million with a 31.6% gross margin, which management characterized as resilient despite lower utilization, raw material and energy cost pressures, and ramp costs from the Huzhou Phase 3.2 expansion. Phase 3.2 (Huzhou) is progressing through trial production and is expected to add up to ~2 GWh of annual capacity with SOP/serial production targeted in 2026. Management announced a new 290Ah LFP battery pack and an integrated KAF electric powertrain (including a proprietary nitrogen inerting safety system) targeting U.S. school buses, aiming to achieve TCO parity with diesel within 10 years and remove deployment barriers for districts. Cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash totaled $174 million at quarter end. Operating cash used was $22.8 million; investing cash used was $2.8 million; financing provided $29.3 million, resulting in a net cash increase of $4.8 million for the quarter. On a GAAP basis there was a reported net profit driven by noncash fair value adjustments, but after adjustments the company recorded an adjusted net loss of $14.6 million and adjusted EBITDA of negative $5.5 million. Strategic priorities remain: drive to cash flow positivity, scale capacity while protecting margins, and capture high-value, high-barrier market segments (notably heavy industries and transit). Key near-term risks include raw material and logistics inflation, tariff and subsidy regime changes, regional demand shifts (APAC and India), and the timing/absorption costs of the Huzhou ramp and Clarksville U.S. pack expansion.
