Orion Energy Systems Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Orion reported Q1 FY2026 revenue of $19.6M (roughly flat YoY) while delivering material margin and cost improvements. Overall gross margin rose to 30.1% (from 21.6% a year ago) and the company posted its third consecutive quarter of positive adjusted EBITDA (Q1 adjusted EBITDA of +$0.2M). LED lighting revenue was up slightly to $12.9M with lighting gross margin improving to 31.8%. Electrical maintenance revenue grew 21% to $4.0M with a sharp margin recovery. EV charging revenue declined to $2.7M on timing variability, but a ~$6.5M Boston public school bus electrification project began late in the quarter and should drive Q2 revenue. Operating expenses were reduced ~10.6% to $6.9M, reducing the net loss to $1.2M vs. $3.8M a year ago. Cash used in operations improved and revolver borrowings were reduced to $5.25M; available liquidity was $9.8M. Management reiterated FY2026 guidance: ~5% revenue growth to about $84M and the expectation to approach or achieve positive adjusted EBITDA for the full year (outcome depends on revenue mix). Management highlighted a strategic focus on converting Orion’s product/service quality into market leadership across LED lighting, EV/infrastructure and maintenance, and called out an emerging opportunity in electrical infrastructure work. Key risks include near-term EV funding uncertainty and typical project timing variability, though management expects tariffs on Asian LED components to be managed to a net-neutral impact via sourcing and pricing.
