Rush Enterprises Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Rush Enterprises reported Q1 2026 revenue of $1.68 billion and net income of $61.5 million ($0.77 diluted EPS). The board declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.19 per share. The commercial vehicle market remained weak, with Class 8 retail at pandemic-era lows and Class 4–7 demand very soft, but management believes Q1 represents the trough of the cycle. Early signs of improvement include modestly higher freight rates, increased miles driven, improving used-truck demand, and rising order activity—particularly from large fleets—since December. Aftermarket (parts, service, leasing and rental) is a key strength, accounting for about 66% of gross profit and generating $627 million of revenue; aftermarket initiatives (inspections, parts delivery optimization) are delivering incremental revenue and uptime. Leasing revenue was $92 million (up ~2% YoY); rental utilization is below desired levels but improving. Management is acquiring Peterbilt dealerships in southern Louisiana and Mississippi (expected close in June) as part of continued market expansion. Management expects a gradual recovery through the year and stronger demand in the back half, but cautioned that uncertainty remains around EPA emissions rule details which may influence prebuy dynamics.
