Southside Bancshares Earnings Call Transcript Summary of Q1 2026
Southside Bancshares reported a solid Q1 2026: net income of $23.3M (+10.8% QoQ), diluted EPS $0.78 (+11.4% QoQ), loan growth of 2.7% linked-quarter to $4.95B, and an annualized ROTCE of 14.39%. Net interest margin improved to 3.01% driven by lower funding costs, including the February redemption of $93M of 7.51% subordinated notes. New loan production was strong (~$431M) with $240M funded and the remainder expected to fund over the next 6–9 quarters; the loan pipeline is ~$1.3B (won-but-not-closed ~$331M). Credit remains healthy: NPAs fell to $9.7M (0.11% of assets) after a $27.5M multifamily payoff, though four multifamily loans were moved to substandard due to slower lease-up and lower rents. Securities grew to $2.87B (MBS purchases) with a modest increase in unrealized AFS losses; duration is stable. Deposits were flat QoQ with an increase in brokered deposits offsetting retail and public fund declines; wholesale funding rose to $1.4B. Expense outlook: management expects roughly $40.5M of noninterest expense per quarter going forward (targeting ~7% annual increase) and an improving efficiency ratio in Q2 as one-time items drop out. Capital remains strong with flexibility for M&A, organic growth, and opportunistic buybacks.
